| Save Children in Baltistan through ECD |
| US$ 25,000.00 |
The proposed project focuses on villages in the Skardu District,
where the children (particularly females) live in vulnerable conditions.
The District is located in the Northern Areas, one of the Pakistani administered
regions called -FANA. The region is one of the worlds most difficult to
access, where most Villages are located at 14,000 feet above sea level.
The majority of people live below the poverty line and the main economic
activities are related to subsistence farming, livestock, and domestic
work. Literacy rate is very low and females are kept at home away from
education. There are many factors in the Skardu District that restrict
proper child development. In this remote area, poverty and ignorance lead
parents to involve their children in labour activities at an early age.
Children age 4 and older are involved in activities such as cattle feeding,
grazing, tending to crops, and begging on the streets. Due to socioeconomic
conditions and lack of information, parents do not recognize the importance
of early years in children's development. Consequently, children are raised
without the proper stimulation and care that they need to develop into
thriving adults. The goals of the GRACE Association Early Childhood Care
and Development Program are to increase the awareness of the importance
of proper child development, reduce corporal punishment in homes and schools,
and give girls full access to education programs and develop an environment
for children to be raised with proper stimulation and care that they need
to develop into prosperous adults. Details will provide on contact. |
| Support Inclusive Education |
| US $10,000.00 |
Grace Association is enrolling children with disabilities
in Grace Public School Skardu. The NPO is trying to make the school environment
friendly for inclusive education. It is estimated that more than 90% of
children with disabilities in the project area do not attend school due
to the lack of awareness and accessorily other barriers like training
needs, appliances, financial constrains etc. Through this project we will
run a sensitization campaign for inclusive education (using all possible
AVAIDS) for school teachers in males and females schools of 20 target
villages. Literature regarding awareness will also be developed and disseminated
for attitude change towards disability at community level. Model inclusive
education schools will develop at union council level and the school community
will mobilize for this cause. More details will provide on contact. |
| Support Educate Girls |
| US $1,000.00 |
Gender biases, discrimination, and corporal punishment are
a culture at home as well as in the schools. Parents often send their
sons to quality schools but mostly girls are kept at home away from education
due to poverty and ignorance. Moreover Children are corporally punished
for mistakes and threatened by parents as well as school teachers. The
education of girls is a low priority, and they are rarely sent to school.
Many parents are against coeducation, even in the early years, and girls
remain illiterate because they have no schooling opportunities or facilities.
Female children as most affected and vulnerable usually work with their
parents in the fields 6 to 8 hours a day. The goal of this program is
to educate female children in the remotest areas where girl children are
neglected. More details will provide on contact. |
| Support establish 'Disability Resource Centre (DRC)' |
| US $27,000.00 |
Generally in the whole country and particularly in Skardu
Baltistan, persons with disabilities (PwDs) are the most vulnerable segment
of the society in term of poverty and exclusion from the development process
of the society and they are facing multitude of barriers that limit there
access to education, employment, housing transportation, health care,
rehabilitation and other all development opportunities. These persons
with disabilities have no rehabilitative, educational or economic empowerment
services with in Baltistan region. There is a dire need to address their
issues on priority and humanitarian basis to enable them to think that
they are treated as human being by the common folk of the society. So,
Disability Resource Centre (DRC) is a genuine need of the PWDs of Baltistan.
The Centre will provide referral services for prosthetic limbs, orthopedic
braces, wheelchairs, and psycho social services, which have urgent and
specific requirements, within the project area and if theses appliances
not found with in the project area Grace Association will develop linkages
with DPOs and Organizations working and providing such facilities to disabled
peoples in down cities of Pakistan. Appliances like wheelchairs, crutches,
white canes and other assistive devices are required to mitigate burning
needs of PWDs with in the area. These devices will improve the quality
of life for people with disabilities by increasing their independence
and enabling them to have access to training, education, economic opportunities
and livelihood skills. Detail information will provide on contact. |
